Sinjar Human Rights Award: The National Woman of Courage Prize 2025

The winner of the National Woman of Courage Prize 2025 is Mrs. Parez Omar
Mrs Omar worked with several organizations since the beginning of the genocide and contributed to delivering aid to displacement areas in the camps of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Syria. She accompanied youth volunteer teams to deliver assistance on Mount Sinjar. She continued working with the IDPs and Syrian refugees supporting women and advocating for their rights, despite facing significant harassment from some members of the community who accused her of “working with non-believers.”
Parez has been highly active in the field of women’s rights and freedoms in Kurdistan. Together with a group of women activists, she presented the first proposal calling for compensation for female survivors. The idea of issuing the Survivors’ Law first emerged when she and a number of women met with former President Fuad Masum, who received their demands for legislating a law to compensate survivors in 2016. The initial draft of the law began from the Office of the Presidency afterward.
