Since 2015, Katharina Dönhoff has been providing services to the refugees and IDPs both in Iraq and Germany. She founded the organization HAND FÜR HAND in Berlin to deliver direct assistance to refugees. Through her organization, she has offered extensive support to Yezidis—especially children—empowering them to access the education and care they need. More than seven years ago, she established a dedicated center in the village of Sina to support displaced children, providing a safe environment that helps them recover psychologically and socially from the trauma they have experienced.
She has also contributed to raising awareness about the suffering of survivors by writing articles about their stories and experiences, which were published in well-known German magazines. Through her work in HelinVoices , a number of journalists—men and women—were trained to enable them to amplify the voices of minorities in the Sinjar and Ninawa Plain, promote freedom of expression, highlight human rights issues, and spread peace.
