About the House of Coexistence (HOC):
The House of Coexistence (HOC) is a multicultural community center in Sinjar, dedicated to promoting peace, human rights, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability, with a special focus on empowering youth and women in post-conflict areas. Established by 2019 Aurora Prize Laureate, Mirza Dinnayi, HOC operates as an independent, non-profit NGO under Iraqi Law No. 12/2010. HOC is recognized nationally as a leading civil society initiative, hosting international guests and diplomatic delegations, and providing a safe, inclusive space for cultural, educational, legal, and psychosocial support.
Job Overview:
The Agricultural Trainer will play a central role in HOC’s agricultural recovery and climate resilience programs in Sinjar. The Trainer will develop and deliver a hands-on, locally adapted training curriculum targeting 100 smallholder farmers, focusing on:
- Climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming practices
- Modern and efficient irrigation systems
- Agribusiness development and income diversification
- Occupational health and safety, including safe pesticide use
The role also includes field-based technical mentoring to help farmers implement new techniques effectively. The ideal candidate will have strong training and coaching skills, practical knowledge of local agriculture, and a commitment to inclusive, participatory learning approaches, especially for women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Training Design & Delivery
- Develop and implement a 5-day interactive, farmer-focused training program
- Prepare accessible materials, manuals, and visual guides for low-literacy participants
- Ensure sessions are inclusive and meet the needs of women, youth, people with disabilities, and marginalized groups
- Apply adult education and experiential learning methods
2. Farmer Mentorship & Technical Support
- Conduct at least two on-site follow-up sessions per farmer
- Provide tailored technical guidance for applying new practices
- Coordinate with HOC agricultural experts for technical consistency
- Identify common challenges and propose adaptive, locally relevant solutions
3. Monitoring, Evaluation & Feedback
- Collaborate with MEAL team to track attendance, outcomes, and field application
- Document participant feedback, success stories, and lessons learned
- Contribute to post-training reports and knowledge products
4. Coordination & Administrative Support
- Organize logistics: scheduling, venues, transportation, materials, refreshments
- Maintain accurate training records, attendance logs, and photographic documentation
- Coordinate with Project Coordinator and Project Manager
- Promote gender-sensitive, environmentally sustainable, and inclusive practices
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor’s in Agricultural Extension, Agronomy, Horticulture, Rural Development, or related field (Master’s preferred)
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years in agricultural extension, technical training, or capacity building for rural communities
- Proven experience with smallholder farmers in fragile or post-conflict contexts
- Knowledge of climate-resilient farming, value chains, and modern irrigation systems
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong facilitation, mentoring, and community engagement skills
- Ability to translate technical concepts into practical, field-based learning
- Excellent communication in Arabic and/or Kurdish (English is a plus)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with tablets or digital data collection tools preferred
