During the past few days, we had the honor of hosting two distinguished delegations that traveled together from Baghdad to Sinjar, united by their love for this land and belief in its story. The groups included a remarkable selection of friends of Sinjar and its people from Baghdad, Najaf Al-Ashraf, and Kut, as well as Iraqi expatriates arriving from Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UAE.
The first delegation, accompanied by Dr. Saad Saloum, President of Masarat Foundation, included Dr. Muntaser Al-Husseini, Director General of the Conference Palace at the Ministry of Culture, Dr. Abbas Al-Sharifi, Advisor to the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Wael Mundher, Professor of International Law at Al-Mustansiriya University, and Mr. Abbas Al-Jorani from the Ministry of Health.
The second delegation, accompanied by Mr. Ali Al-Makhzoumi, founder of Balweekend Agency, included world cycling athlete Mustafa Qallab, along with several hiking and camping enthusiasts.
The first day featured an adventurous free climb starting from Al-Salam Camp toward Mount Sinjar, reaching an elevation of 1,300 meters at the summit of (Sine Kavoke), where participants experienced the serene and majestic silence of Sinjar under a star-filled sky.
The second day was dedicated to a deep cultural and historical journey introducing the Yazidi community and recalling the memory of genocide. The tour included visits to key cultural and heritage sites in Sinjar, mountain camps, genocide sites, mass graves, and the memorial monument—forming a path that combined knowledge with remembrance, reflection on pain, and hope for renewal.
