House of Coexistence (HOC), alongside Ms. Rebecca Cattrall, representative of the British Embassy in Baghdad, Un Ponte Per (UPP), Investigation for Law and Rule of Law (ILO), Justice Center (JC), and the Legal Clinics Network, participated in a joint meeting with the Independent High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq (IHCHR).
The meeting discussed several issues of mutual interest, particularly efforts to create an appropriate framework for implementing the provisions of the Legal Aid Law, preparing a guidance manual for its implementation, as well as initiating the development of internal regulations and defining frameworks for the participation of civil society organizations and international actors in this field.
The civil society delegation also met with Ms. Ala Talabani, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Women’s Affairs, at the Government Palace of Al-Ziggurat. The meeting focused on human rights issues of mutual concern, the challenges facing women’s rights in Iraq, and ways to overcome the obstacles hindering progress on women’s rights and address current challenges.
These meetings were held as part of the Building Peace and Stability in Iraq – Phase IV program, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), in partnership with Un Ponte Per (UPP) and in cooperation with a number of established civil society organizations in Iraq.
